This weekend we travel to K-Park Training Academy to face East Kilbride FC in the second round of this seasons Scottish Gas Men’s Scottish Cup.
Only 7 places separate these sides in the League pyramid with The Rose currently 5th in League 2 against an East Kilbride side who are 2nd in the Lowland League.
East Kilbride under Manager Mick Kennedy (formerly with Darvel) and Assistant Manager Si Ferry (Open Goal) have built a formidable squad who just missed out on a League 2 place last season when they were defeated by Stranraer in the final play-off.
East Kilbride went out of the competition at this stage last season after a heavy defeat at Tranent.
In this season’s competition they defeated Gretna 2008 in the 1st round and have had good cup run in the SPFL Challenge Cup where they are through to the quarter final stage.
East Kilbride have been winning and scoring a lot of goals in this seasons Lowland League.
This will be a tough game for The Rose in the small compact stadium and we will need to be at our best to reach round 3 of the competition.
The Rose come into this match after a confidence boosting performance in the League against Edinburgh City FC.
In the memorable Cup run last season The Rose defeated Fraserburgh and Albion Rovers away and then defeated Falkirk at NDP in a thrilling game in the 4th round to reach the 5th round for the first time in the club’s history before going out to Premier League Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
