Bonnyrigg Rose are looking to continue their recent run of form as they head to Ochilview to take on play-off hunting Stenhousemuir on Saturday.
With just five games to go, cinch League Two has developed into the SPFL’s most fascinating division, with plenty to play for at every inch of the table.
For Rose, it’s all about staying in the division in the first season after promotion. While there’s still a long way to go, last weekend’s fantastic 1-0 win over Stranraer put them up to eighth ahead of Elgin City (who have a game in hand) and Albion Rovers.
The goal was scored by talisman Keiran McGachie, whose return to the side has provided real attacking impetus and fostered a confidence right the way through the ranks.
That confidence, though, will be put to the test against a strong Stenny outfit. Gary Naysmith’s side have only lost once in their last 12 league outings, putting them in real promotion play-off contention, just two points off third-placed Annan Athletic having played a game fewer.
The main man at the heart of any Stenny success is undoubtedly Matty Yates. With 16 goals and a league-high 15 assists, there’s few players in the division who can claim to be as influential as him.
Yates has played a key role against Rose this season, scoring the winner in the last meeting between the pair after Dean Brett was sent off at New Dundas Park. He also bagged a brace in Bonnyrigg in a 4-2 win earlier in the campaign.
But the previous encounter at Ochilview will be remembered for one of the goals of the season, as Bradley Barrett rocketed one in from way out to spark sensational scenes in the away end. The howitzer brought the visitors level two minutes removed from an Adam Brown penalty, with the spoils shared in Stenhousemuir.
Can Rose go one better and make it three wins on the trot?
Kick-off at Ochilview is at 3pm on Saturday. Tickets are priced at £14 for adults, £9 for concessions and £5 for children, and can be purchased via Fanbase or the cash-only gate ahead of kick-off. Supporters can read the Ochilview guide here.
