Welcome Dean Watson

Welcome Dean Watson

20 year old Shire front man becomes Robbie Horn's third summer signing

The club are delighted to announce the signing of Dean Watson from East Stirlingshire on a two year deal.

Dean began his career at Partick Thistle where he was sent out on loan to East Stirlingshire in 2020 to gain some valuable game time. During that spell he came up against the Rose, causing us plenty of problems that day and scoring a powerful volley in the process. A performance that caught the eye of the gaffer. The loan spell was cut short and was followed by another temporary move to then League Two side Annan Athletic.

In the summer of 2021 Dean made his return to the Shire, signing a permanent deal with the Lowland League club. He wasted no time in picking up where he left off, quickly showcasing his talents with a number of eye catching performances and goals including his unbelievable 2022/23 goal of the season winning strike against East Kilbride.

We caught up with our new man and he had this to say: “I'm buzzing to get this done, the last few months were tough after the injury but I'm looking forward to bouncing back with a Bonnyrigg Rose top on and doing my best for the club”

When asked what attracted Dean to the club he added: "I like how the gaffer spoke and went about his business. He seemed really keen on me and has kept an eye on me throughout my time at the Shire, for me that was a key factor. I'm now fully fit and ready to go for the season ahead"

The gaffer also took the time to share his delight at securing a long time target: “Dean is someone I’ve tracked for a while and a player we’ve tried to sign before. He first caught my eye when playing on loan at Shire from Partick and our supporters may remember him from that game too.

He’s quick, strong, got good feet and can score goals. He suffered an injury towards the end of last season but will be back for a couple of the pre season friendlies.

He’s still only 20 but he’s got a hunger to step back up to the leagues and do well. My belief is that if we can get him going then he is capable of going back to full time football.“

We'd like to put on record our thanks to East Stirlingshire for their cooperation with this transfer, all the best for next season.

Welcome to the Rose, Deano
