Kevin Smith becomes Robbie Horn’s first signing ahead of the club’s 2022/23 cinch League Two campaign.

The club are delighted to announce the signing of forward Kevin Smith following the expiry of his contract at East Fife.

'King Kev' is still held in high regard at Bayview Stadium following his departure after spending over eight years at the club, with a testimonial match versus Heart of Midlothian still to come for the forward as a reward for his exceptional service to the club.

The 35-year-old was appointed as The Fifers’ club captain in 2015 and went on to lead the side to the 2015/16 Scottish League Two title, holding off Annan Athletic, Clyde, Elgin City and Queen’s Park in a fiercely competitive title race.

Smith has also lifted two Scottish Second Division (now League One) titles during his career. The first came at the end of a very successful two-part loan spell at Raith Rovers during the 2008/09 season, in which Kevin finished with a league-high 18 goals.

The latter title triumph followed for Smith during his two-year stay at Queen of the South, with the forward also winning the Challenge Cup following a penalty shoot-out victory in the final over Partick Thistle in 2013 – securing a historic league and cup double for himself and the club.

The experienced forward started out his career at Leeds United and Sunderland, before also going on to represent Dumbarton, Dundee, Dundee United, Notts County and Wrexham.

“I’m delighted to have signed with Bonnyrigg.” Smith said upon his arrival, “Being a local lad I have been keeping an eye on the progression of the club and was delighted to see them gain promotion to League Two.

“I think it is a club going in the right direction which is reflected by the amount of season tickets the club have sold already. I’m looking forward to helping the lads have a successful season in League Two and can’t wait to get started.”

Manager Robbie Horn has said, “I’m delighted to get Kevin on board. He’s an experienced player who has played at a high level and knows the lower leagues well.

“He was a loyal servant to East Fife and also their captain so it’s real coup to get him to Bonnyrigg.

“As well as a massive addition on the pitch, he will be great for the changing room as he is a top guy and professional and his experience will be invaluable in our first season in the SPFL.”

Welcome to the Rose, Kevin!
