The club can announce that long-serving midfielder Lewis Turner has today joined Gretna 2008 for an undisclosed fee.
A Bonnyrigg boy, Lewis has been integral part of the Rose’s success over recent years and will be hugely missed by his teammates, the management team, the committee and the fans.
Over seven seasons at New Dundas Park, the man known as Teapot made 222 appearances in red and white, scoring 35 goals in that period.
A particular goal will always stick out as one of the finest moments in the club’s history, as his 94th minute winner saw 10-man Rose defeat Broxburn Athletic in the play-offs to secure promotion to the Lowland League in 2017/18.
Lewis leaves Bonnyrigg with an incredible array of medals, having won two East of Scotland Super Leagues, a Fife and Lothians Cup, an East of Scotland Premier Division, a Lowland League & a cinch League Two Play-Off Final.
Writing on Twitter about his departure, Lewis said: “I made the toughest decision this week to leave Rose after seven unbelievable years.
“I can’t thank the club, staff and team enough. It’s been a massive part of my life and the memories will last forever. I’ve made friends for life.
“I wish the boys all the best and hopefully they can continue to rise up the leagues. What an unbelievable club.”
Rose manager Robbie Horn said of his midfielder: "Lewis has been a big part of the club's success since I’ve been at the club.
"He’s been an amazing character in the changing room and has made a massive contribution on the pitch too.
"There’s been a few special memories on the way but his goal away at Broxburn to confirm our promotion to the Lowland League for me was his best moment.
"He came to me a couple of weeks ago and felt the time was right to move on and, though in many ways I didn’t want him to go, he was probably right. He’s been with me from the start and I class him as one of my boys, so like everyone else I’m sad to see him go.
"I thank him for everything he has done for me as a manager and everything he has achieved at the football club. We wish him all the best for future and I hope he can back playing and enjoying his football again."
From everyone at Bonnyrigg Rose, we’d like to wish Lewis the very best in the future and thank him for his remarkable service.
Teapot Turner, a true club legend.
